FUNDING FOR NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE IN WODONGA
The Rudd Labor Government will provide $3 million to construct a new Community Arts and Entertainment Centre in Wodonga.
The City of Wodonga project will demolish the current Wodonga Civic Centre and build a modern facility worth a total of $9.3 million. The centre will position Wodonga as a regional hub for the performing arts, with the potential to bring leading artists and major events to the region.
The project will also foster local arts and community organisations arts and increase local participation in the performing arts.
The project is expected to construct a new centre with a flat floor auditorium, stage, courtyard, meeting room, foyer, staff office, box office, store rooms, dressing rooms, green room and loading docks.
It will also include environmentally friendly design features using natural light, air-conditioning with occupancy monitoring, rainwater harvesting and thermally efficient design.
The funding is part of our Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which is delivering a record $1 billion for nearly 5,000 projects across the nation.
