The Cultural Development Network and the City of Melbourne’s Arts and Participation Program, in collaboration with The Torch, present:
Gettin' It Right: Community Consent and the Arts
Wednesday 9 June, 1.00- 4.30 pm
Seminar Room, Ground Floor, VicHealth, 15 Pelham St, Carlton South, Vic
This public forum will feature presentations from arts organisations who are developing their practice around informed consent in their work with communities and individuals. Formal presentations will be followed by facilitated group discussions on topics including making legal advice work for you, more thorough unpacking of community consent, moral and copyright considerations for arts workers, accessibility and strategic action.
Speakers will include:
- Michelle Chiller, Executive Officer, The Torch (Chair)
- Rebecca McLean, Sharp Film Productions
- Rebecca is a documentary film maker with extensive radio journalism credits. She has worked for Aboriginal community controlled corporations (CAAMA, PY Media and Warlpiri) and as well as commercial film producers.
- John Smithies and Pia Smith, Cultural Development Network
- VicHealth’s Informed Consent Research Project
- Adam Rozsa, Arts Development Officer, Arts Access Victoria
- Raw Law: accessible legal information for artists with a disability
- Jemma Mead, Merri Community Health Service
- Case study: Y-Glam Performing Arts Project, working with same sex attracted and transgender young people
This event will be of interest to professionals working in the arts with communities and individuals. This may include people who have a disability, refugees, Indigenous, young people, children and people from CALD backgrounds. Artists, artsworkers, local and state government, community, health, welfare, education, other interested professionals welcome.
